| Who would have dreamed one week ago that most of Ohio would suffer the damage and extended power outages from the high force winds left over from Hurricane Ike. We were fortunate here not to have damage to our facility, and thanks to the conscientious efforts of our staff members, our frozen food supply was moved to other safe locations and saved. We especially want to thank Gina Pressler and her family for use of a freeze in Columbus, WASC Board member Tim Huston for use of a generator, our colleagues at Head Start who helped move and store food, Chris Kuttler, and many others who checked to assure that our operation was fairing well. This event has set us back on planning the opening of the Tallmadge CLC and other projects, but we will be back in sync and operating normally within a week. Thanks, everyone, for pulling together. |

IT'S OFFICIAL!!!
The West After School Center has been awarded a One Star Rating in the Ohio Department of Job and Family Service Step-Up-to Quality Rating System. Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) is a statewide, voluntary rating system for licensed childcare and afterschool programs designed to move programs above established health, safety, and program standards and to help parents select quality programming for their children. We share this rating and honor with colleagues from the Lancaster-Fairfield Community Action Head Start (ELI programs) who share our ODJFS license. Commendations to all our staff and particularly Jane Hart (WASC) and Kathleen Cortleesa (Head Start) who have spearheaded this effort. We join the Child's Play Learning Center in Pickerington as the only other SUTQ-Rated afterschool program in Fairfield County. To learn more about Step Up to Quality click HERE |
Join us on September 22, 10:00 a.m. for an official press conference announcing this award! |

MEAL PROGRAMS at the WASC Busy parents can take advantage of the availability of supper at the WASC, Cedar Heights, and Tallmadge, Monday-Friday, throughout the year. The snacks we serve are free, and the supper program (5:30-6:00 pm) is open to any child in our programs or others that would sign up for supper, based on qualification requirements similar to the school lunch program. The WASC is a sponsor of afterschool meals for the centers serving children at East, West, Cedar Heights, and Tallmadge. |
