Celebrating our VETERANS

at the West After School Center program sites

Cedar Community Learning Center

On November 11, 2008 Cedar Heights Elementary School honored our Veterans at a school assembly. This assembly involved a choir by the 4th grade as they sang "God Bless the USA" and the students were able to view a presentation famous memorial sites in our nation's capital, Washington, D.C.  At the end of the assembly, the students were able to shake the hands of all the veterans and tell them thank you. This was certainly a proud and memorable moment for our Vets and students.

Tallmadge Community Learning Center

The Tallmadge Community Learning Center commemorated Veteran's Day with Mr. Jason Carnahan. Jason is a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran. He shared the history of Veteran's Day with the students as well as some of his experiences. The students and staff appreciated his visit with us.

West After School Center

The students at the West After School Center celebrated Veterans Day with a presentation from Sergeant (Ret.) Mary Austin. She served many tours of duty overseas, including three in Korea. In addition, she has been stationed in Cuba, Hawaii, California, Texas and many more. She was very interesting to listen to and shared many of her experiences with our students. A big thank you to her and the many veterans around our country who have sacrificed for us!

MEAL PROGRAMS at the WASC

Busy parents can take advantage of the availability of supper at the WASC, Cedar Heights, and Tallmadge, Monday-Friday, throughout the year.  The snacks we serve are free, and the supper program (5:30-6:00 pm) is open to any child in our programs or others that would sign up for supper, based on qualification requirements similar to the school lunch program. The WASC is a sponsor of afterschool meals for the centers serving children at East, West, Cedar Heights, and Tallmadge.
