Available Summer Programs at West After School Center  Programs include a Free Lunch for any Lancaster child ages 2 to 18, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Weekdays, now through August 17th (Closed July 4th) Lunch must be eaten on the premise.
June 18 – 22       10 a.m. – Noon             Painting, Watercolors, & More  Students going into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade 1 – 3 p.m.                     Math Made Fun!   Students going into 2nd and 3rd grade June 25 – 29        10 a.m. – Noon             Paper Mache Art  Students going into 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade 1 – 3 p.m.                     Kids Cooking   Students going into 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade SUMMER LEAP AHEAD READING PROGRAM (with Ohio University-Lancaster) - separate registration required - (these classes are full) Tuesdays, June 12, 19, 26,  - Monday - Friday the weeks of July 9, 16, and 23
WASC Childcare Participants Create Puppet Show for Preschoolers The students enrolled in our summer childcare program enjoyed writing the scripts and performing a puppet show for the students in the Early Learning Initiative Class (ELI). Commendations to teachers Wendy Starner, Anne Stuart, Deb Billings, and Aime Azbell for this creative, entertaining learning experience for the students at our center.

The West After School Center continues to accept applications for its summer childcare program (safe, clean, fun, affordable, and air-conditioned). The center is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to accommodate the needs of working parents. Meals and snacks are included in the weekly cost of the care. Any school age child (entering grades 1-6) from Lancaster or surrounding areas may register. Families that are eligible for Title XX benefits may have a portion or all of their weekly costs reduced. This program service will operate until Friday, August 17. The WASC will be closed July 4. Students will be able to participate in daily fun classes and activities at the WASC, take walking field trips, and maintain and advance their learning skills throughout the summer. To inquire about weekly costs, attendance requirements, and price breaks for siblings, contact Aime Azbell at the WASC, 653-5678. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Act now to reserve spots for your children.
SUMMER CHILDCARE AVAILABLE For children entering Grades K-6 6:00 am to 6:00 pm  Monday thru Friday thru August 17, 2007	Summer Program Fees Eligible families are encouraged to apply for childcare reimbursement (Title XX) from the Fairfield County Job and Family Services to reduce child care costs significantly. For those that qualify for those reimbursements, childcare payments must be established with JFS before enrollment. For those that choose to self pay, the first week’s payment must be received at time of enrollment. Tuition $125 per week; $100 per week (second and subsequent siblings) Tuition is charged a flat rate, regardless of hours participating Enrollment for summer includes the first week’s fees and completed registration forms. Applications will only be accepted in person at the West After School Center office 620 Garfield Avenue, 653-5678. Ask for Aime Azbell.
The Summer Lunch Program at the West After School Center has been operational for two weeks. We are the sponsor of open sites our center, the Robert K. Fox Family Y, and the Eastside Center for Success. This week, we served an average of 225 lunches and snacks each day. Any student from any school, ages 2-18, can stop in for a free lunch, regardless of current approval status with the school lunch program.  Lunches are being prepared here in our kitchen, and available from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  The managing cook is Linda Kline, Head cook from Cedar Heights Elementary School.  She is assisted by Debbie Chenoweth and Sandy Anders, also from the Cedar Heights food service staff. The Summer Lunch Program will operate through August 17. The WASC will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, for observance of Independence Day.
It is a daily assembly line production to prepare 225+ lunches -- and our staff is managing the process very well.				checking and organizing the delivery of our weekly food order.
Our summer lunch program was inspected by Teresa Howard of the Ohio Department of Education Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) on June 15. Congratulations to all our staff and site directors for an inspection that had NO code violations!  Commendations to Chris Kuttler, Office Manager, who organized our site for this visit and all the documenting paperwork in good order. Way to go!
Computer and Science Week at the WASC. Students have enjoyed their week studying computers and they created some interesting PowerPoint presentations which they shared on June 15. Instructors Jennifer and Alexis Lape also led their students in some interesting science lessons and experiments.
