TO USE THE KROGER
COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM:

Pick up a copy of the registration form
from the WASC. It has the scanbar code on it.
-
Simply take the form to the Customer
Service Desk at your local Kroger store. They will scan it and your
Kroger Plus Card, and with 72 hours a percentage of everything
purchased at Krogers comes to the WASC - between now and April 30,
2010.

A new partnership coming in August, 2009.
Waldenbooks in the River Valley Mall will
conduct a book drive during which patrons can buy and donate children's
books to the West After School Centers. Watch here for a start date to
be announced soon. Support our local bookstore and our afterschool
programs at the same time. |

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Over 30 local residents
attended an
informative community meeting held at the WASC about forming a neighborhood watch. Tim Huston, WASC
Emeritus Board Member, is the driving force in making this community
service become a reality. For more information to learn how you can form

Center is a provider for the Ohio Benefit Bank. If you are in need of
assistance related to childcare, food, health coverage or home energy
needs, please call the WASC at 653-5678 and set up an appointment to do
a quick check to see if you might qualify for help. |

Our local
Information & Referral of Fairfield County has just received
notice of their designation as a
2-1-1 Call Center!! They have much work to do
switching phone lines to be compatible with
2-1-1, but the bottom line is
hopefully by August, local residents should be able to call
2-1-1 in Fairfield County and
get I&R.

Healthfest
Saturday, August 8th, 2009, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Fairfield Christian Church/Academy, 1st floor
1965 N. Columbus Street
800 packets of school supplies will be given to children (of school age)
in attendance, while supplies last. This all depends on the grant
approval and price availability.
The purpose of the Community Healthfest is to encourage attendees to
participate in health screenings (all free) at the same time as
receiving supplies, giving them some health feedback for healthy
lifestyle changes. Free screenings should include glucose, cholesterol,
vision, hearing, height and weight, color blind test, blood pressure,
bone density and possibly others. Immunizations will be given (as long
as attendees have their records with them) free of charge, thanks to a
sponsor and Fairfield Department of Health.
There will be some inflatable activities out by the playground to
encourage fun exercise. This too, will be free. There is usually a small
child's craft and face painting. The hope is to have fire trucks and
other exploring opportunities for children available.

South Elementary
Charity Newsies will be furnishing supplies
to area schools. Please check with the school office for further
details.

Betzi Cable lives
in Lancaster with her husband and family. Her children attend Cedar
Heights Elementary School and she works for the Cedar CLC and Cedar Hts.
Elementary School in various role of program support and childcare.
During the summer months, she has proven to be aflexible substitute,
capably filling in at various positions, most recently at the East
Community Learning Center lunch site, one of our busiest! She is a
Lancaster High School graduate, and she likes reading and spending time
with her children. |

Andrew Kuttler
graduated from Lancaster High School with the Class of 2008 where he was
a member of the LHS Soccer Team. He has completed his freshman
year at the University of Dayton and has worked as a summer program
assistant at the Cedar and Tallmadge CLCs for two years. Andrew also
works at K-Mart, has been a carrier for the Lancaster Eagle Gazette, and
was a volunteer tutor in the WASC afterschool program for two years
while at student at LHS. |

These resources are becoming part of a training workshop
being planned by the National Association of Elementary School
Principals (NAESP)
and the National AfterSchool Association (NAA) to promote
collaboration between principals and after-school program leaders and the
development of extended learning opportunities for
children across the country.
Dr. Young traveled to Washington DC this week to
meet with and help prepare a small group of trainers from across the county who utilize these resources
and others in the advancement of the workshop in states across the nation this
coming school year.
