[name] really enjoys attending the WASC. The WASC is a blessing from God. [name] is receiving the best grade cards she has ever received due to the help she's getting at the WASC. I appreciate this service. It really helps my son improve in school.
[name] has improved greatly since attending the WASC for tutoring. She loves to come and never gives us any problems about attending. She does however still need to improve her skills in math, reading, and spelling. Her self esteem has improved in these areas, but she still is behind what the other children are doing in class. I appreciate everything the WASC tutors have done for [name] and keep up the great work. The only suggestion I have is possibly a sheet to let me know how she did in tutoring or what she is still struggling with.  My child was recently diagnosed with ADD. The program has benefited her greatly. She is trying much harder putting forth greater effort and is blossoming from the extra help she receives here. The swimming trips give her something to look forward to and to work harder for, The staff at the center impresses me greatly. I see care and concern in everyone I meet. The program has been very helpful in assisting my child with her speaking out. She has also improved somewhat in her interpersonal skills. I would recommend this program to any parent.
Thank you for everything you have helped him with. He's doing very well in school. I think it's a great program. My child benefits greatly. The staff are great. Thanks, my son loves coming here everyday & he has improved at everything.
I have better communication with my son's tutor than his teacher at the school. It makes me feel better to know he's not just another face in the crowd. She's a life saver. My student has greatly improved her spelling skills while attending this program. I feel this program has benefited my daughter greatly and I am grateful to have it available to us.
We are extremely happy with the WASC and how they take care of our child!! We appreciate all the encouragement and attention you give to our family. This program should have been available to the children before it was. It has helped her and made her confident and happy since she started.
Thank-you for helping my son with everything that he needed help with.

Reporter David Wayne from nbc4 in Columbus shared special insights about the world of television media with our students this last Friday. He was also interested in our production of Healthy Living for Kids and took sample DVDs back to his station to share with colleagues there.

Thank Your Mentor Day™ – January 25, 2007

January is National Mentoring Month: Pass it on. Become a Mentor.

National Mentoring Month (NMM) highlights mentoring and the positive impact it can have on young lives. Spearheaded by the Harvard Mentoring Project, MENTOR and the Corporation for National and Community Service, the first-ever NMM was held in January 2002. Throughout January, the outreach campaign has focused national attention on the need for mentors, as well as how everyone – individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities and nonprofits – can work together to increase the number of mentors and assure brighter futures for our young people.

We thank each of our 98 mentors -- all ages, junior high school through senior citizens!!

With opportunities for high-quality, engaging ways to spend afterschool time, children and youth can counter potential negative outcomes. Voluntary, structured activities help children learn persistence and concentrate on tasks; develop better work habits and attendance in school; increase their physical activity; improve their grades; build self-confidence through service learning, team sports, and performances; and learn about careers (p.14).     source: A New Day of Learning (2007). C.S. Mott Foundation (p.15).

Did you know?

Idleness after school and fewer opportunities in school for physical activity have contributed to an epidemic of obesity among American children. According to the Forum on Child and Family Statistics, the percentage of children ages 6 to 17 has tripled in the past three decades.
