JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:      Board of Directors Member, West After School Center

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.       Genuine interest and commitment to the mission and vision of the West After School Center.

2.       Experience working with people, especially volunteers.

3.       Ability to interact and work with other community leaders, speak in front of varied audiences if asked, represent the Board of Directors in a positive, effective manner in the community.

4.       Ability to use a computer, read Email, and interact via electronic communications from the WASC and between members. 

5.       Must complete background check. 

6.       Ability to supervise and manage financial resources, scheduled progress reports, and government requirements.

7.       Ability to supervise and manage all legal and fiscal requirements for operation of the property and inventory owned by the organization.

 

REPORTS TO: Elected Officers and Members of the Board of Directors, West After School Center

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collectively, shared with other members…

  1. Hire and evaluate the Executive Director of the WASC. 
  2. Create and implement policies and goals as appropriate and that further the mission of the organization.
  3. Create and approve an annual operating budget for the organization or delegate responsibility.
  4. Work in collaboration with community agencies, citizens, service groups, etc. to identify ongoing needs, create programs, services, and revenue streams, identify new people who could help with various needs for the West After School Center and other after school programs with Lancaster City Schools.
  5. Seek additional funding sources, grants, and provide for perpetuity of program offerings after 21st Century grant funding diminishes.
  6. Have a working knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements and regulations for operation of a 501 © 3 tax exempt agency.
  7. Maintain data, lists, files, communications, WASC paperwork and/or delegate responsibilities.
  8. Attend meetings, suggest and evaluate ideas, make suggestions, represent WASC constituents, move motions as appropriate, analyze, evaluate, and approve financial reports and operational records of the WASC Board of Directors.
  9. Attend monthly board meetings and/or committee meetings as arranged.
  10. Be familiar with and adhere to the by-laws of the organization.
  11. Work cooperatively and in collaboration with the principal, staff, volunteers, parents, and students of West Elementary School and Lancaster schools.
  12. Develop and maintain security systems for the center and/or delegate responsibilities.
  13. Monitor the maintenance needs of the building and/or delegate responsibilities.
  14. Monitor the cleaning needs of the building and/or delegate responsibilities.
  15. Assist with the solicitation and satisfaction of staff and/or volunteers for the programs sponsored by the WASC.
  16. Maintain confidentiality of students, personnel, and business of the WASC.
  17. Participate in the WASC program activities as appropriate.
  18. Assume other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Board of Directors.

TERM OF SERVICE:  Ongoing until resignation or removal from board by vote of members
